Blog V. Wiki

I would start off by saying that the main difference between a blog and a wiki is how they are used by the consumer. People tend to use and edit blogs to share their thoughts with one another. This can be about feelings, personal issues and even simply free writes. Blogs are more of an art form that people use as a medium to express themselves. On the other hand, a wiki is more of a informational source that people use and edit. Usually, a person is either learning or teaching when they are on a wiki. If you want to learn about a book, a movie or a specific event in time or anything that has some sort of meaning to you, the best place is probably a wiki page. That is the major difference between the two sources. In the news article "Brooklyn Blog Helps Lead to Drug Raid", the author discusses how a blog can have a tripple effect. Readers and bloggers were all from the same community and used it as a way to generate attention towards an issue they wanted solved. Blogs are a form of communication between people and this proves that it can be a very significant player in our everyday lives if used appropriately. In the reading "How to Use Wiki for Business", the author discusses primarily the different ways in which information bounces around from different businesses. In my own personal experiences, different sources are always used to piece together and transmit information across different channels. But this article made a really good point about how wikis are being used more and more to transmit important information. People use wikis for research, communication and even strategic initiatives especially in businesses. Blogs in my opinion can be used as ways for people to edit short stories, review food places, talk about business tactics and many other ways which are all forms of collaboration. On the other hand, I think that a new way to use Wikis would be to track events and other such things. These days, social media sources are always the first to break out news stories. I would like to think that we can use Wikis in the same way in that when something happens, people tend to look at wikis before social media. It is something that is far fetched but I think it could be a great idea if executed properly.
